Visiting Artist Io Palmer

Come see Visiting Artist Io Palmer talk about her work Tuesday 28 February
at noon in AJ 225!

"Through depictions of cleaning products, laborers' garments, and various
other industrial and domestic forms, Io Palmer's artworks explore complex
issues of class, race, and identity, in particular the impact society has on
the individual. Trained originally as a ceramicist, Palmer uses a variety of
processes and materials including metal, linen and drawing.  Palmer has been
featured in several national and international exhibitions, including
Working History at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, Hair Follies at
Concordia University in Montreal and Workspace, a solo exhibition at Wabash
College, Crawfordsville, Indiana. She has participated in several artist
residencies including the Santa Fe Art Institute, Santa Fe, NM, Art Channel
in Beijing, China and the Sanskriti Foundation, New Delhi, India."

Palmer holds a BFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia ,
Pennsylvania and an MFA from the University of Arizona in Tucson.  Io is
currently assistant professor at Washington State University in Pullman
Washington.

Fill a pixel! Be seen by satellite!

There's a cool project happening at bemysatellite. As they put it:

BeMySatellite is an initiative that aims to allowevery individual on Planet Earth to be uniquely documented by satellites.

They're currently focusing on Los Angeles, handing out assignments for specific times of day to be captured by the satellites overhead. Eventually, they will expand, so check back on them!

Show them your moves.

There's a website being run by the Indianapolis Art Institute that features regular contests for animation, drawing, and graphic design.

It's called Indiana Uploaded, and it's open to any college student in Indiana. The website is just getting off the ground and there's not a lot of competition for the contests. The prizes they give out range from bragging rights to internships, but most of the time they give away cash.

It's free to participate, so check it out and submit something. It's a nice way to get some feedback on your work and you just might win something.
